What language is spoken in Darjeeling?

The official language spoken in Darjeeling is Nepali, as it is the native language of the majority of the people living in the region. However, due to the region’s diverse population, other languages such as Bengali, Hindi, and English are also spoken and understood by many locals.

In addition, some other ethnic communities in the region, such as Lepchas, Bhutias, and Tibetans, have their own unique languages and dialects. Overall, while Nepali is the dominant language in Darjeeling, visitors should have no problem communicating with locals in English or Hindi, especially in tourist areas.
